Mexican stock market falls sharply after six days with gains


The Mexican stock exchange (BMV) ended trading this Wednesday with a heavy loss. The local stock market fell in line with its US peers after a streak of six sessions of gains.

The index reference S&P/BMV IPC, which groups the 35 most traded shares in the country, lost -2.08% to the level of 50,394.03 points. The index FTSE BIVAof the Institutional Stock Exchange (Biva), lost -2.08% to 1,040.86 points.

Stock markets were hit by a global wave of risk aversion after quarterly results from retail companies in the United States were hit by Covid-19 lockdowns in Chinese cities.

Within the reference index, most of the components ended the day with falls, with 30 in red and five in green. Losses were led by Aeroméxico, with -9.84%, and GAP, with -6.07, and Banorte, which lost -5.13 percent.

In the six previous days, the S&P/BMV IPC index accumulated an advance of 4.91 percent. This came after falling to its worst level in almost a year, hit by fears about the growth of the global economy.
