Mexican Caribbean expects to receive 1.3 million tourists per December holiday season

Cancun, QR. The governor, Carlos Joaquín González, gave in Cancún the starting signal for the security operation called Vacation Plan Quintana Roo 2021.

The governor announced that approximately 1 million 300,000 tourists are expected from December 18 to January 2, 2022, for which more than 700 security elements will be deployed “to guarantee peace in the state during the holiday period.”

Joaquín González highlighted three fundamental points for this season: working to take care of tourists and visitors; streamline and streamline internal work in their transfers and transit, as well as ensuring that they have quality services for a fair price.

Our goal is for our visitors to become our best promoters of the destination and of our tourist infrastructure to continue advancing, creating jobs and continuing to fight poverty “, he commented.

In total, there will be 773 police officers who are part of the operation, as well as 60 vehicles of the Municipal Secretariat of Public Safety and Traffic, to which will be added elements of other bodies such as the army, Marina, National Guard and Civil protection.

“A very active winter season awaits us, there is a projection of 100% in hotel occupancy, an increase of 10% in the number of operations and passenger flow compared to the same period in 2019 and, therefore, it is essential to guarantee the security for locals and visitors ”, commented the mayor of Cancun, Mara Lezama.

He recalled that in his recent visit, the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, promised to send Benito Juárez a priority to send the newly created Tourist Security Battalion of the National Guard, who since the first day of December have been working hard on this tourist destination.

Mara Lezama highlighted the health measures implemented that have allowed us to be a national example of economic reactivation, so in this winter season, the effort of workers, citizens and governments is essential to not lower their arms in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.
