In an interview for The Economistthe manager pointed out that they hope that this year the tourism sector will continue with a significant recovery and for the second half of 2022 to close with good figures.

“The success we had in the first quarter of the year is because we had the opportunity to resume natural markets such as the United States and Canada, but also Colombia, which has been pushing hard with new flights from Cali, Bogotá, from the main destinations. This is helping a lot to recover tourism, and also the national market with low-cost airlines and together with the push of Aeroméxico we are having very good numbers in all destinations, we have practically recovered the figures of 2019, we are closing at 81% occupancy in line with the budget”, he explained.

“For the second quarter of 2022 we see very encouraging figures, at Easter and Easter we closed 100% occupancy, even in our hotels in Buenos Aires, Miami and Orlando, which are complicated destinations, they also had a good return and for what is May and June we see good figures”.

Challenges of the hotel sector

Rafael Sandoval said that, although the outlook is encouraging in terms of the return of tourism, the hotel sector faces various challenges, including the lack of personnel and the rise in the price of inputs.

“Since the pandemic, many people have returned to their places of origin, collaborators, chambermaids, waiters, the staff is very limited, but on the other hand, the number of occupations is growing, which implies a great challenge since there is a large labor market. but little labor”, he refers.

Likewise, he explains that they have also had to face the rise in prices of supplies, which makes everything more expensive, for which they are making a great effort to maintain the costs of the packages.
