Metrolinx Contract Worker Killed at Pickering During GO Transit Construction | The Canadian News

TORONTO – Police and the operator of a prominent regional passenger service said a worker died east of Toronto after being trapped under a wagon Saturday night.

Durham Regional Police say a 41-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene in Pickering, Ontario.

He was part of a team that was performing construction and maintenance work on behalf of the Go-Transit Metrolinx operator on the 117-year-old Rouge Hill Bridge.

The Ontario Ministry of Labor is investigating the incident east of the Rouge Hill GO station.

Metrolinx spokesman Matt Llewellyn said Lakeshore East GO train service was suspended over the weekend while repair work was underway.

He says service in the area will be disrupted Monday and Tuesday, and possibly beyond, as the investigation continues.
