Mayor of Winnipeg – and his lucky jacket – waiting for Gray Cup Sunday – Winnipeg | The Canadian News

As the Winnipeggers prepare to see their team play for a second straight Gray Cup championship on Sunday, some fans are pulling out their lucky charms.

One high-profile Blue Bombers fan says he’s even been sleeping with his own.

“I’m not a superstitious guy, but I wore a Winnipeg Blue Bomber jacket on the field in Calgary when we won (the 2019 Gray Cup) and I’ve been sleeping with it the last few nights,” Winnipeg Mayor Brian Bowman said at 680. CJOB.

“I’m going to put it on again. Hope it brings us good luck.

“I am very nervous about this game. I know the stats are good, but let’s get into your turf, your fans, we are the losers in this game. If we can go in and win back-to-back championships, it will be an incredible feat for an incredible team. “

Bowman said he will wear his lucky jacket for Hamilton, wear it to the game, and then take it home for a “good wash.”

The mayor said he is looking forward to the trip to Hamilton, where the Bombers will meet the hometown Tiger-Cats, not just for a chance to enjoy the game. The media frenzy surrounding the championship, he said, gives him a platform to talk about Winnipeg on stage across Canada.

“I will be representing the city…. And what I love about the CFL when their team enters the Gray Cup is that it gives them a national platform to talk about all the good things that are happening in our community, as well as what the team is doing in our community, and they are doing a lot now in a difficult year.

“I think we share a lot in common with Hamilton – we are often underrated, both are working-class towns and CFL cities with a long history … and luckily our history against them in CFL Gray Cup matches is quite good.

“Including the last one. And our first victory in the Gray Cup was against the Hamilton team back then, in 1935 ”.

The mayor, who won a friendly bet against his Regina counterpart Sandra Masters after the Bombers defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the CFL Western Final, will also face Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger, and the loser will have to wear the winning team jersey and show a life. -Cardboard cutout of size 108 hours (in reference to the 108 Gray Cup).
