After weeks of psychodrama, the CAQ government gave the green light to the launch of calls for proposals for the Quebec tramway, without any conditions. The withdrawal of the shared street, the obligation of social acceptability, obtaining a federal signature for cost sharing: none of these conditions first mentioned by the ministers of Quebec and the Prime Minister himself even is included in the decrees signed by the government.

Mayor Bruno Marchand was all smiles at the end of the day. “It is with happiness that I received this news. I am very, very happy with the issuance of the decrees. This is good news for Quebec. Not for the mayor, not for the mayor’s ego. For the citizens of Quebec, this is extraordinary news.”

The mayor believes that the strong outing he made on March 23 to denounce the government’s interference in the City’s jurisdiction was a game-changer. “I think it was a turning point. If I had to do it again, I would do it again because of what it brought to the population who said to themselves: I’m going to take an interest in this project. »

He does not make it a personal victory. “Winning is not important. It is to deliver a project. It’s not a personal issue. I’m not doing this battle for personal victories, I don’t care.
