Manufacturing, construction and services drive the labor market in Querétaro


Queretaro, Qro. The transformation, construction and social and community services industries reported the greatest contribution to the generation of formal jobs during the first two months of the year, according to reports from the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS).

The three sectors stood out for being the ones with the highest growth in employment during January and February of the current year, in relation to December 2021.

Together they added 10,742 new jobs generated in the first two months of the year, which represented 82.9% of the 12,962 jobs that were created at the state level.

The transformation industry was the one that had the highest growth, as it added 6,652 jobs during January and February, that is, it implied an increase of 2.9% compared to the figures with which it closed December 2021.

Social and community services created 2,635 jobs, which implied a growth of 4.6% compared to December.

The construction industry added 1,455 new jobs, that is, it grew 2.7% in relation to the mentioned period.

Among the rest of the sectors that also showed job creation are services for companies, which added 2,246, an increase of 1.8 percent.

Likewise, the transport and communications sector added 255 new jobs, that is, an increase of 0.7% in the analyzed period; Commerce added 286 places, an increase of 0.3% compared to the end of 2021.

The electrical industry added 36 jobs, which meant an increase of 1% compared to December, and the extractive industries, which added two jobs, an increase of 0.1 percent.

On the contrary, agriculture was the only sector that decreased in job creation, due to the loss of 605 formal jobs, a decrease of 2.8% compared to those reported until December 2021.

However, the branches that contribute the most to formal jobs are the transformation industry that contributed 36.6% until February (with 235,095 jobs), business services with 19.3% (124,029) and commerce with 16.5% (106,195 ).

With the incorporation of the 12,962 new jobs in the state, it generates a total of 641,638 formal positions affiliated with the IMSS.

In the first two months of the year, most of the jobs were created in February, adding 8,481, 65.4% of the total generated in the first two months; in January the figure was 4,481 jobs.
