Manitoba man wanted in murders of mother and two daughters

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) announced on Tuesday that they are looking for a man who allegedly killed a mother and her two children over the weekend in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.

According to the police, a fire first broke out during the night from Saturday to Sunday in a residence, around 1 a.m. local time.

Upon arrival, firefighters searched the burning house, discovering the bodies of a 32-year-old woman and her children, a 6-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy.

“The investigation determined that the victims sustained injuries that were unrelated to the fire. Their deaths have been determined to be murders,” the RCMP said.

Investigators’ suspicions have turned to Trevis McLeod, a 50-year-old man who is currently escaping justice. The latter faces three charges of unpremeditated murder and an arson charge which were filed against him on Tuesday.

McLeod was reportedly seen around Winnipeg on Monday and Tuesday, so police believe he may still be in or near Winnipeg.

The accused is considered dangerous and should not be approached under any circumstances, police warned, urging anyone who sees him to call 911.
