A growing number of Canadians are unhappy with their provincial governments.

According to a survey by the Angus Reid Institute, more than “half of residents in all regions of the country now say their provincial government is doing a poor job of addressing housing affordability, poverty, and caring for the elderly.”

About 39 percent of Canadians surveyed say their provincial leaders are performing well, but that’s 16 points below approval levels in 2019 and 2020.

Survey results show that 76 percent of Manitobaans think their government is mishandling health care. Manitoba is in the middle of the group for disapproving of the state of the economy at 55 percent.

The only province with a higher disapproval rating in health care is Jason Kenney’s Alberta, at 78 percent. Only 20 percent of Albertans believe that the Kenney PCU government is governing well.

Fifty-six percent of Manitobaans said they approved of how the province was handling the economy in the third quarter of 2019, but that number has dropped dramatically in the past two years, now standing at a dismal 31 percent. , almost seven points below the average of the survey of the nine provinces studied. Territories and PEI were not part of the survey.

Manitoba is among the lowest for its management of drug use and addiction, with just 14 percent saying the government is doing a good job.

According to the poll, the current figures bode well for Manitoba’s NDP, with 43 percent of determined voters saying they will vote orange in 2023, compared with 38 percent leaning blue.

A shift toward dissatisfaction is most obvious in Ontario, where 30 percent of residents say the government is doing a good job compared to 57 percent who said this at the same time last year.
