Mandatory Vaccination Test for Saskatoon Recreation Centers, Indoor Tracks – Saskatoon | The Canadian News

Anyone entering the recreational centers or indoor courts in Saskatoon will be required to present proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or a negative test.

The measure takes effect on October 15 and applies to anyone 12 years of age or older.

However, it does not apply to libraries located within leisure centers.

City councilors held a special meeting on Friday morning to discuss the introduction of the measure.

A city news release said the additional COVID precaution was approved as an “additional safety measure” and to reduce confusion among customers.

“The complexity and size of the city’s multipurpose leisure centers created a challenge to enforce the public health order, as there are many shared areas and access to multiple spaces beyond the point of entry where Commissioners confirm the vaccination or testing status, ”the statement said.

“Additionally, covered trails are not specifically identified in the public health order, which has led to a variety of treatments across the city.”

Beginning October 1, proof of vaccination or negative test was required to access fitness and weight rooms, gyms, sports courts and tracks, land-based fitness classes, and meeting and multipurpose rooms.

He was not required to access aquatic areas and programs, private gatherings held in public places, including private rentals of meeting and multipurpose rooms, and indoor stadiums.

City officials said the public health order also creates challenges for staff and confusion for customers accessing the facilities.

“The council’s decision will ensure that all visitors to indoor venues and stadiums must meet the requirement of creating a safer atmosphere for all,” the city statement said.

“The city will include the new requirements in future rental contracts for all user groups that access the leisure centers and covered arenas.”

Separate directional barriers will be established for libraries located within leisure centers.
