Montreal police said early Thursday morning that no arrests had been made in connection with the slaying, the fourth homicide recorded this year on the island of Montreal.

Calls made to the 911 emergency center a little after midnight reported gunshots had been heard at the intersection of Pierre-Corneille and De Boucherville Sts. near the Place Versailles shopping centre.

Officers found the victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound in the upper body.

A little before 4 am, police announced the victim had died from his injuries.

A crime scene perimeter was established at the site and a canine unit deployed in an effort to find clues.

Police established a command post at the scene early Thursday.
