Man in critical condition after three-car collision in Lanaudière

The vehicle collided with oncoming traffic on Highway 343 in St-Côme after the driver veered from his lane, according to police.

A man in his 40s is in critical condition following an accident in St-Côme, in the Lanaudière region, on Saturday evening.

Three vehicles were involved in the accident, which occurred on Highway 343 around 7 pm

“For reasons that remain unknown at the moment, a vehicle headed south veered out of its lane and collided with a vehicle driving in the other direction. A third vehicle that was unable to slow down was also involved,” said Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Marythé Bolduc.

The driver of the first vehicle, the one that swerved from its lane, was in critical condition when paramedics arrived on the scene. The man was transported to a hospital, where doctors feared for his life.

The other people involved in the accident did not need an ambulance.

A police officer specialized in collisions was on the scene Saturday evening to conduct an investigation. Highway 343 was closed in both directions between Rang Grand-Beloeil and Highway 347.
