Man falls to death by hot air balloon in Israel

JERUSALEM – A man hanging from the basket of a hot air balloon fell and died on a highway in Israel on Tuesday, police said.

It was not immediately clear why he was holding the basket when it took off, they said. Israeli media reported that the man was a member of the globe’s ground team.

Photos on Israeli news websites showed him in the air, clutching the red and white basket. Police said he fell on a highway in the north of the country from a height of about 100 meters (330 feet).

The balloon pilot landed the craft safely.
