Following a tip from the public, Abbotsford police on Friday arrested a male at a worksite in the South Poplar neighborhood near McCallum Road and Highway 1 in Abbotsford.

Jairus-Paul Covacha Sacramento, 22, of Mission, has been charged with one count of sexual assault.

Sgt. Peter DeVries of the North Vancouver RCMP said investigators received numerous tips from the public, one of which resulted in the arrest. Police had issued a description of the suspect and several pleas for anyone with information to come forward.

“We asked for your help, and you came through, and we want to say thank you,” DeVries said in a statement.

The attack occurred at 1:30 pm on Feb. 13, as the victim was exiting the Varley Loop Trail and crossing the foot bridge to Rice Lake Road.

The suspect grabbed the woman’s buttocks from behind.
