Toronto police are investigating after a man was beaten and killed on Don Valley Parkway on Friday night, shortly after stealing a vehicle in a nearby area.

Emergency crews were called to the DVP near Dundas Street East around 8:30 pm to receive reports of a man struck by a vehicle while walking on his left shoulder.

According to a statement released by the service on Saturday afternoon, the 34-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 28-year-old driver who struck him remained at the scene and was cooperating, the statement added.

According to police, about five minutes before the collision call, officers responded to another call for an unknown problem in the Dundas Street East and Carroll Street area.

In that incident, investigators said a man stole a vehicle and was involved in multiple collisions before leaving the area.

The man abandoned the vehicle and was last seen walking towards the DVP, police added.

Toronto police confirmed Saturday afternoon that the man involved in the theft of the vehicle was the same man who was struck at the DVP.

Toronto police and traffic services said the investigation was ongoing.
