For the second time, creating clothing for the Canadian Olympic team, the company collaborated with a selection of athletes from the country to design the pieces. Lululemon worked with 19 athletes, including Vancouver’s Phil Kim (Breaking), Montreal’s Leylah Fernandez (tennis) and Okotoks’ Zak Madell (wheelchair rugby), across 14 sports to create the three “kits” for the upcoming Games.

“We focused on an adaptive fit through articulation and customizable features. We address comfort by blending four-way stretch fabrics and fabrics. We heard the call for accessible storage, so we designed a new approach to pocket shapes and locations that are easy to access and secure,” Audrey Reilly, creative director of Team Canada, revealed in a press release.

Additional adaptive design elements include removable sleeves and pants that convert to shorts.

“One of the biggest innovations of the kit is the idea of cooling the bodywork. Temperatures will be high in Europe in July and September, so this had to be a key focus,” Reilly shared. “We use close-to-body summer base layers created with our SenseKnit technology, perforations and sweat-wicking yarns to allow moisture to move away from the body.”

The sports collection includes pieces from the Opening Ceremony, Podium and Closing Ceremony. The centerpiece of the designs are three graphic prints.

The Opening Ceremony print is said to be inspired by “art, architecture and nature found across Canada.” The tonal red print appears on zip-up jackets, shorts and more.

Podium pieces include a white and red digital camouflage print tracksuit with a convertible jacket and convertible pants.

The Closing Ceremony prints, created in collaboration with Whistler artist Mason Mashon of the Saddle Lake Cree Nation, offer a unique interpretation of the Northern Lights.

Additional parts in the Team Canada x Lululemon The range includes tops, t-shirts, leggings, socks and other Lululemon essentials. The brand’s footwear offering also fits into the collection with the release of the Team Canada BeyondFeel running shoes in a patriotic combination of white and red.
