Losses in culture and the arts

This year that culminates the world of arts, letters, music, cinema and anthropology dressed in mourning with the departure of key figures in the development of their disciplines such as Íker Larráuri, Alfredo López Austin, Mario Lavista, Joan Margarit , Almudena Grandes, Felipe Cazals, Isela Vega, Carmen Salinas, and Vicente Fernández, among others.

  • January 11 Íker Larráuri, muséographer and anthropologist, architect and visual artist. During the 1970s, he promoted school museums throughout the country and actively participated in the museography of the National Museum of Anthropology.
  • January 27th. Alfonso de Maria y Campos (1949-2021), ambassador of the Mexican Foreign Service, was director of Publications of Conaculta and general director of INAH from 2006 to 2012.
  • February 16th. Joan Margarit, poet and architect, Cervantes Prize 2019.
  • March 9. Isela Vega (1939-2021), actress, screenwriter, producer and film director. He acted in more than 100 films.
  • March 17. Vicente Rojo (1932-2021) plastic artist, designer and editor of Catalan origin, innovator of color and volume.
  • 5th of April. Francisco Haghenbeck, comic book writer and scriptwriter.
  • June 25th. Antonio Helguera (1965-2021) cartoonist for the newspaper La Jornada, twice National Prize for Journalism.
  • July 29. Roberto Calasso, (1941-2021) renowned Italian writer and editor, polyglot, critic of the culture of modernity.
  • September 2nd. Mikis Theodorakis, musician and composer, famous for the music of Zorba The Greek.
  • September 5. Enrique González Pedrero (1930-2021), diplomat, intellectual, writer and editor, was director of the Fondo de Cultura Económica.
  • September, 17th. José Hernández Claire (1949-2021), Mexican documentary photographer.
  • 24th September. Ángel Ortuño (1969-2021) poet, librarian and university professor.
  • October 15th. Alfredo López Austin (1936-2021), historian and anthropologist, hunter of myths, a wise man of our time.
  • October the 17th. Felipe Cazals, (1937-2021) filmmaker, producer of emblematic films such as Canoa, Los Motivos de Luz and Las poquianchis.
  • November 4th. Mario Lavista (1943-2021), musician and composer, alchemist of luminous atmospheres, died at the age of 78.
  • November 7. Ricardo Nudelman (1941-2021), writer and editor of Argentine origin. He was general manager of Librerías Gandhi for two periods and of the Fondo de Cultura Económica.
  • September 7th. Enrique Rocha (1940-2021), soap opera and dubbing actor, his voice characterized Bagheera in the film The Jungle Book.
  • November 27. Almudena Grandes (1960-2021), Spanish writer, six of her works were taken to the cinema.
  • December 9. Carmen Salinas (1939-2021), film and TV actress and theater, comedy and cabaret producer. He participated in more than 60 films and more than 20 soap operas.
  • December 11. Anne Rice (1941-2021), American writer, author of the Vampire Chronicles series.
  • December 12th. Vicente Fernández (1940-2021), vernacular singer, actor and record producer. Winner of two Grammy Awards and eight Latin Grammys.
