Loretta Ortiz Ahlf was sworn in this Tuesday as Minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), with which the High Court will have the participation of four female ministers for the first time, since the constitutional reform of 1994.

During the solemn session of the plenary session of the highest court of the country in which the presiding minister Arturo Zaldivar imposed the ministerial gown on Loretta Ortiz, the minister assured that she will perform with independence, impartiality and autonomy.

Loretta Ortiz was elected on November 23 as minister of the SCJN by the full Senate, after on November 16, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador presented the shortlist of candidates to occupy the position after the retirement of Minister José Fernando Franco González Salas.

It should be remembered that it was the third time that President López Obrador proposed Ortiz Alhlf as minister.

Loretta Ortiz Ahlf She served as an advisor to the Federal Judicial Council (CJF) from November 20, 2019.

She has a degree in Law from the Escuela Libre de Derecho; member of the National System of Researchers Level III. She has a doctorate in Human Rights and European Community Law from the National Distance Education University of Spain and a Master’s in Human Rights from the Ibero-American University.

He was a member of the Drafting Group of the Constitution of Mexico City between 2016 and 2017; Federal Deputy from September 2012 to 2015, Counselor of the National Human Rights Commission from 2002 to 2006, and Legal Counsel of the Environmental Cooperation Agreement of the North American Free Trade Agreement from 1996 to 2006.
