López Obrador meets with CEO of Vulcan Materials and US Ambassador Ken Salazar

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador received today in a meeting at the National Palace the ambassador of the United States in Mexico, Ken Salazarand the director of the American company Vulcan Materials CompanyThomas Hill.

The visit of businessman Thomas Hill was due to the fact that President López Obrador accused Vulcan Materials, through its subsidiary in Mexico, Calica, of illegally extracting construction material (such as gravel and sand) from a bank in Quintana Roo and exporting it. to the United States without the permits to do so.

However, the company argued that since March of this year it has had a three-year customs permit.

President López Obrador threatened that if operations in Mexico were not stopped, he would sue the company in international courts.

Calica “Limestone Industrial del Carmen SA de CV” is a subsidiary of the American mining company Vulcan Materials. It has a plant on land next to the Chetumal-Cancún federal highway in the municipality of Solidaridad, Quintana Roo.

Meanwhile, the meeting with the US ambassador Ken Salazar takes place within the framework of the next Summit of the Americas to be held from June 6 to 10 in Los Angeles, California, and for which President López Obrador remains firm in his request to the United States government to invite all the leaders of the region, including those of Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela.
