“After a difficult couple of years full of cancellations, postponements and disappointments, we are thrilled to be able to relaunch a full slate of national events for the next two years,” Ahmed El-Awad, who is Swimming Canada’s CEO, said in a release. “Our athletes have shown so much resilience and we can’t wait to cheer them on in the pool – and in open water – as they continue to pursue their goals.”

Both events scheduled for Windsor will be held at the International Aquatic and Training Centre. The Eastern Canadian Championships will be in Windsor from March 16-19, 2023 while the Canadian Masters Swimming Championships will be in Windsor from May 24-26, 2024.

“Providing appropriate competition is an important part of us achieving our high performance and sport development goals,” Wayne Lomas, who is the associate high performance director for Swimming Canada, said in a release. “We are fortunate that, from east to west, there are so many high-quality community facilities and willing partners who want to support our swimmers and our sport.”

Hill’s victory honored

Coming off his first collegiate victory, University of Detroit Mercy Titan’s senior James Hill was named Co-Horizon League golfer of the week on Thursday.

Hill, who is an Assumption high school product, won men’s division at the Butler Spring Invitational earlier this week with a career-best total of one-under par 139 after rounds of 69 and 70. He finished in a three-way tie for first place, but won the event on a scorecard playoff with a birdie on No. 17 and a par on No. 18.

Hill became the first Titan medalist since 2019 with sophomore Alek Mauro, who is from Windsor, finishing second on the team with a 34th-place finish to help the school to a fourth-place finish overall at the event, which was held in Indianapolis.

saints secure medal

The St. Clair Saints claimed the bronze medal on Thursday at the OCAA women’s indoor soccer championship, which was held at the Ontario Soccer Center in Vaughn.

Unbeaten in three pool games on Wednesday, St. Clair fell 1-0 to Senenca College in the semifinal.

Regrouping to play less than two hours later, the Saints beat Lakehead University Orillia 1-0 to secure the bronze medal. Seneca scored a 1-0 win over Humber on penalties to claim the gold medal.

Ravneet Rana, a Riverside high school product, scored with just under four minutes to play in the opening half for the only goal of the match and keeper Natalie Turner made it stand in posting the shutout. A Holy Names high school product, Turner posted shutouts in four of the team’s five games and was named a championship tournament all-star.
