Perhaps this week the University of Windsor Lancers men’s hockey team will get a little recognition from the panel voting for the top 10 in U SPORTS.

The unrated Lancers posted back-to-back victories over the No. 7 ranked Western Mustangs on Saturday with a 6-3 victory at the Capri Center. It came two days after the Lancers beat the Mustangs 6-3 in London.

The first-place Lancers (6-2-0) now hold a two-game lead over Western (4-4-0) in the OUA Far West Division and have won all three meetings against the Mustangs this season.

Mel Melconian scored a pair of goals for the Lancers in Saturday’s victory with Brady Pataki and Anthony Stefano adding one goal and one assist each. Holden Wale and Jaydon Fetter added individual goals, while goalkeeper Noah Giesbrecht took the win at the net with a 26-save effort.

Falling Pair of Admirals

The Amherstburg admirals lost a couple of weekend games in the Bill Stobbs Division game of the Provincial Youth Hockey League.

The division-leading Lakeshore Canadiens stayed perfect after 15 games with a 5-2 win over the Admirals on Sunday at the Book Center, which came just one day after Amherstburg fell 4-3 on the road. against the Wallaceburg Thunderhawks.

On Sunday, the Canadiens (15-0-0-0) scored three unanswered goals in the third period to score the road win over the fourth-place admirals (8-8-0-1).

Lakeshore scored three power play goals in the game along with a goal from a personal foul. Luka Mesic had one goal and two assists to lead the Canadiens. Dylan Weston and Parker Jacques each had a goal and an assist, while Aydon Novacco and Trevor Larue added individual goals.

Max Jones and Connor Demelo scored for the Admirals, who were outshot 40-31.

The University of Windsor Lancers women’s hockey team achieved a consecutive victory on Saturday with a 3-2 overtime victory on the road over the Laurier Golden Hawks.

Elissa Benjamin scored her second goal of the game at 4:52 in overtime to give the Lancers the victory (2-1-3) after the club shut out Laurier 3-0 on Friday.

Rylee Hogan had the other goals for the Lancers, who have gone into overtime in four of their six games this season. Goalkeeper Holly Barrett took the victory at the net with a performance of 31 saves.

Lancer Basketball Divisions

The University of Windsor Lancers men’s basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 90-84 win over the Laurier Golden Hawks in OUA action on Saturday, while away problems continued for the women’s team in a 56-50 loss to Laurier.

For the men’s team, Telloy Simon had 30 points and 14 rebounds for Windsor, who posted their first road win of the season in four games. Thomas Kennedy had 26 points for the Lancers (3-4), while Ziphion Grant contributed 12 points and Lorenzo Barbieri added 11 points off the bench for Windsor against the Golden Hawks (2-4).

The women rallied from a double-digit deficit in the middle to take the one-point game in the fourth quarter, but were unable to complete the comeback on the road, where the club is now 0-4. The loss came just three days after the Lancers beat Laurier by 16 points at home.

Mariame Dehkissia had 11 points to lead the Lancers’ offense (2-5) against the Golden Hawks (2-4).
