Family Respite Services Windsor-Essex is building a new accessible respite home for children with disabilities and received assistance from the Windsor Home Hardware Construction Center. The construction center donated $ 10,000 to the project when FRS ran into an increase in lumber costs due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new rest house is larger and more modern than the original. It ensures that families caring for children with disabilities receive much-needed rest while their children participate in meaningful activities in a safe and accessible environment.
Ernie Piunno and his wife Susana use home respite services for their 16-year-old son Christian, who was diagnosed with autism as a child.
“The new home represents everyone united. It will mean everything to our family and to all the other families involved. This place is a godsend, ”Piunno said in a press release. “The generosity of the people of Windsor is incredible.”
The Piunnos look forward to the monthly weekend with friends, where Christian has a sleepover at the rest house.
“Being autistic, Christian doesn’t really connect with kids his age, he connects with respite workers,” Piunno said. “He loves it”.
