Re: Packer: Given the outcome of Canada’s election, a coalition could do the trick

John Packer makes a compelling case for a federal coalition government. Given the victory of the minority of Liberals last week, it makes sense. To quote Mr. Packer, “Imagine a liberal-led coalition with Elizabeth May as environment minister and Jagmeet Singh as employment or housing minister. A coalition lengthens the cabinet seat and allows some differences in government to be negotiated for better results. ”I fully agree.

SkyTrain is not appropriate

Re: Property sales near the proposed Surrey-to-Langley SkyTrain corridor higher than surrounding areas

SkyTrain is the wrong technology for rapid transit to Langley. SkyTrain’s top speed of 80 km / h is too slow for the long drive to Langley. We feared this would happen when Prime Minister Bill Bennett chose ALRT (SkyTrain) technology in the mid-1980s. The more SkyTrain expands, the more inappropriate it is.

Re: As a BC team, the Lions deserve more coverage in the local media

I totally agree with Mr. Hoffard that the BC Lions and the rest of the CFL don’t get much coverage in The Province newspaper.

As the father of two sons who played high school soccer, community soccer, and one of them played four years of college soccer in BC, I know how much the kids enjoyed the game and the contact and support of the Lions. We always go to BC Lions games and we still do.

My two young grandchildren are in their first year playing soccer and they love and are huge fans of the Lions. The Lions always supported all levels of soccer. The province newspaper should praise Lions for what they do in the community.

I know from watching CFL soccer that sportscasters always praise soccer shows in Canada, but it shouldn’t stop there. Soccer in Canada has a long history and one of the ways to preserve it is to promote the game at all levels. One important way to do this is through the media, and that includes our major newspapers.

I couldn’t agree more with David Hoffard about The Province newspaper’s lack of coverage in BC Lions. We publish more in the newspaper about all the other CFL teams than we do about our own Lions.
