After reading about how the residents living around the PNE grounds are upset about the extremely loud music and questionable lyrics coming from these outdoor concerts, or so-called raves, I do feel for them. But not one word about the thoroughbred race horses stabled at Hastings Park, right there in the absolute closest proximity to the big stage, not 50 feet away. It is terrifying to so many of them.

The PNE doesn’t seem to care. We love our horses, and people have their life savings wrapped up in these animals. In my opinion, to have this venue so close to the barn area is just bizarre. Is there something wrong with the Coliseum or Agrodome?

Re: Caregiver convicted in starving death of woman with Down syndrome avoids jail

Where is the justice when a woman with Down syndrome who wasn’t able to care for herself dies from neglect due to the incompetence of the caregiver who was supposed to take care of the disabled woman and protect her from danger? There is no justice nor any real accountability.

As an adult on the autism spectrum, I take personal offence to this court sentence, which also serves as a bitter reminder that the lives of many people with intellectual disabilities are often devalued or don’t seem to matter at all, especially with the stigmas and stereotypes that we’ve endured for years leading to abuse, neglect and rejection from mainstream society.

I wonder what kind of treatment I might expect when I reach an age where I would need some daily care and could be at risk from predators and those who can take advantage of people like me, or who would simply ignore me altogether until I finally croak and am soon forgotten about?

Surrey election: get out and vote

As far as I’m concerned, people who constantly complain about Surrey Mayor Doug McCallum have no one to blame but themselves. Where were these people in the last municipal election four years ago? Unless we do our research on candidates who run for office, we’re not going to end up with positive results. Staying home on election night is not the answer. If we don’t get out and vote, then we get the municipal politicians we deserve.
