Congratulations to everyone who planned, coordinated and worked tirelessly to bring this great corridor back in a very expeditious manner.

We seem to have forgotten the tremendous work that the CN and CP employees did at Fraser Canyon. The restoration of these critical pieces of infrastructure two to three weeks before Coquihalla reopened was truly amazing. The skill and dedication of these railroad workers certainly deserve our recognition. Well done.

At the same time, it is worth noting that the railways achieved this on their own without any burden on the taxpayer.

Ed Posyniak, Edmonton

Shaken faith

Like most, I am exhausted from the pandemic. The endless variations, the torrent of bad news and the uncertainty of when this war against the virus will end. And while I remain a strong supporter of all public health measures, I am concerned about the inconsistent messages from Dr. Bonnie Henry.

I am not saying this because I believe that the pandemic is over for the unvaccinated, but because I believe that the director of public health must understand the damage that is being done to our mental health.

From day one, I have put my faith in Dr. Henry. However, over time that faith has wavered. Last Friday’s COVID update and associated amendments Tuesday have taken away credibility.

Medical science can try to save everyone. Even with that measure, we are failing as the burden of untreated disease and psychological stress accumulate.

Worse, however, we can overlook the long-term consequences when we fail to reward people for complying with public health measures. Will they be willing to listen to the advice of scientists the next time there is an emergency?

If they don’t, that will be the real cost of delaying appropriate pandemic restrictions and communicating them effectively.

What is the point

For my part, I would like a clear explanation of how closing all establishments where you must already have double vaccination to enter or reducing the capacity in them makes some sense.

At some point, those of us who have been living by the rules will wonder what the point is.

Bill Richardson, West Vancouver

Done with this nonsense

Dr. Bonnie Henry says that “Omicron’s ease of transmission means that it is very likely that over time we will all be exposed to this (variant).”

Obviously, going to another confinement will not prevent the inevitable. Enough already, we are done with all this nonsense.

The only restriction should be international travel. Turn off those cross border / continental flyers and that’s all the “lockdown” you need to do. It is not rocket science, as Dr. Henry wants us to believe. She is not a hero and Canadians need to secure and safeguard this country from others who pass it on.

It will never stop it, but you can minimize it.

Chester Malcolm, Chilliwack
