SOMETHING TO SAY

For those of you familiar with the 1964 American musical film, ‘My Fair Lady’, the words, “I’m willing to tell you. I’m wanting to tell you. I’m waiting to tell you,” might sound familiar. After watching the back-biting highlights from the debates between the wannabe leaders of the Conservative Party of Canada, I was provoked into directing the following remarks at the Conservatives’ backroom powerbrokers. I’m willing to tell you the Trudeau’s government needs to be replaced. I’m wanting to tell you Trump-like bombastic prevarications won’t get my vote. I’m waiting to tell you I am a Conservative supporter once again. But that will only occur if the Conservative party is led by someone with moderate conservative values, namely, principled leadership, fiscally responsibility, honest accountability, respectful inclusiveness, and science-based policies. Canada does not need more circus clowns; Canada needs a conscientious, inspirational team motivated by a desire to manage our country responsibly. By the way, moderation is defined as the avoidance of excess or extremes, especially in one’s behavior or political opinions.

DRIVING EFFECTS

Re “33% of recent cannabis users say they got behind the wheel high: Poll” (Jane Stevenson, May 26): This statistic, coupled with the fact that since Trudeau legalized pot for more votes and a new revenue tool cannabis usage has skyrocketed , should be a sobering thought for anyone driving on our highways! However, the fact stoned people drive should surprise nobody, as when Colorado and Washington states legalized pot, road deaths there escalated, as will be the case here. I recall when I did many years of drug enforcement (RCMP) pot users often told me that using cannabis actually made them more alert and consequently better drivers! Unfortunately, nothing could be further from the truth, as using cannabis directly effects fine motor skills needed in operating all machinery. Other places that have legalized cannabis have also found more accidents when operating heavy equipment by cannabis users. This is just another of Trudeau’s follies as he continues making policies to appease certain voting blocs while ignoring the negative consequences!

CELEBRATING OUR QUEEN

Just finished watching CTV News at 6 o’clock (June 2) which showcased many of the festivities celebrating Queen Elizabeth’s 70 years on the throne. Couldn’t help noticing the taxes from other Commonwealth countries like Australia and New Zealand but not a mention of any taxes from Canada. I have to say that this was embarrassing and another black mark on Canada. Justin Trudeau’s father, Pierre, was not shy in displaying his contempt for the monarchy when he famously pirouetted behind the Queen’s back during one of her past visits to Canada. Guess his son he has learned his lesson’s well. God save the Queen and long may she reign.

THANK YOU FIRST RESPONDERS

The vicious storm that rolled through Ontario on the Victory Day weekend caused massive damage in many areas. Our emergency responders managed the situation as expected, efficiently and professionally. Many, such as our hydro workers, worked around the clock for days on end to restore power in different parts of the province. There is another group that deserves our thanks and recognition — the many private citizens who reached out to friends, neighbors and even strangers to lend a helping hand in a time of need. A special thank you to each and all.
