Essex County OPP is inviting members of the community to dispose of old medications safely at an upcoming prescription drug drop-off day.

“I encourage members of our community from across Essex County to take advantage of this opportunity to dispose of unused and old prescription medications during this year’s drug drop-off day,” said Essex County OPP Insp. Glenn Miller.

“Prescriptions are prescribed to those who require the medication and should be used in consultation with your physician.”

Studies indicate that about a quarter of teenagers report misusing prescription drugs at least once in the last year — and most of those medications they took from their family home. By disposing of old prescriptions safely, police say family members can help prevent prescription drug misuse.

Residents can drop off prescriptions anonymously and without having to leave their vehicles — just drive up and an OPP officer will assist you. The drug drop-off will run this Friday from 1 to 6 pm at the Leamington OPP detachment at 7 Clark Street West.
