Leafs put Marner and Sandin on injured reserve | The Canadian News

TORONTO – The Toronto Maple Leafs added forward Mitch Marner and defender Rasmus Sandin to injured reserve Tuesday and released forward Joey Anderson to his AHL affiliate.

The Maple Leafs also called up forward Alex Steeves and defenders Alex Biega and Kristiāns Rubīns of the Toronto Marlies.

Marner hasn’t played since he collided with teammate Jake Muzzin in practice Friday.

Sandin was injured after a knee blow to the knee in a 6-3 loss to Winnipeg on Sunday. Jets defender Neal Pionk was suspended two games for the hit.

The Maple Leafs did not provide details about the injuries or the expected length of absences in their morning Twitter post. Toronto was scheduled to host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, Pionk was on concussion protocol, a Jets spokesman said Tuesday. Pionk took a hit from Leafs forward Jason Spezza in the third period of Sunday’s game.
