Laura Dern has said that it was a “great privilege” for her original Jurassic Park family to team up with the new stars of Jurassic World to create the latest film in the franchise.

Jurassic World: Dominion sees Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill and Dern reprise the roles they first played nearly 30 years ago in the original 1993 film.

Directed by Colin Trevorrow, the film will also see the return of Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, along with new cast members.

Dern, who returned as Dr. Ellie Sattler, said that returning to the franchise was “amazing.”

She said: ‘This is family and certainly for Jeff, Sam and I, and Steven Spielberg, we became a family all those years ago.

“And now joining this new family with Colin at the helm and of course Chris and Bryce, and now having the incredible DeWanda (Wise) and Mamoudou (Athie) with us, so many incredible actors, it really has been a great privilege. . .’

The film had started production when the pandemic began and was one of the first to return once restrictions were relaxed.

Dern said the entire crew got a chance to really bond during this time, as they had to live together while filming as part of Covid safety precautions.

He praised the cast and crew for what they sacrificed to ensure production on the film could be completed, to help revive the industry, recalling how Goldblum played piano for the crew and had music and game nights together.

She added: ‘We had an amazing family experience, eating, sharing and looking after each other.

“Bryce and I had to be away from our families for a long time and from all the sacrifices everyone was making at work. Some much bigger than this, of course, like our frontline workers.

“But we wanted to bring our industry back and I think all of the crew on this film, who were such a big part of that, are grateful that we supported the back-to-work initiation.”

Goldblum, who will return as Ian Malcolm, agreed that he found joining the Jurassic World generation “very exciting” and he has been eager to praise his co-stars.

He confessed that “there’s hardly a part of acting that excites me more than working with actors”, admitting to feeling “a little dazzled and enamored by creative suitors and actors”.

“Laura Dern is a master of the cinematic arts, as is Sam Neill, and to be able to do that with them 30 years ago and it went very well with the great Steven Spielberg directing our activities and people liking it over these decades was exciting.

“So coming back for the first time since we’ve been on screen together was very exciting.”

The new film is set four years after the destruction of the Jurassic World theme park on Isla Nublar, when companies auctioned off genetically modified dinosaurs and released them into the human world.

It will be the third film in the Jurassic World series and the sixth installment in the Jurassic Park franchise.

Jurassic World: Dominion will be released in UK cinemas on June 10.
