During the early afternoon of December 19, Lakeshore firefighters responded to a report of a CO emergency at a home.

The residents had been alerted by their detector. Responding firefighters checked with monitoring equipment and found high concentrations of carbon monoxide in the home.

Further investigation revealed that a malfunctioning water heater was the source of a CO leak.

Lakeshore Fire Department Chief Don Williamson said the situation “could have been a much sadder story” if it weren’t for the alarm.

“CO alarms save lives and we must be vigilant to make sure they are working properly,” said Williamson.

Williamson stressed that residents should not hesitate to call 911 if they have a concern about a CO alarm.
