LaGrange along with Alberta School Boards Association President Lorrie Jess and University of Alberta School Superintendents President Wilco Tymensen are scheduled to appear at 3:30 pm on Wednesday.

The government will announce that additional steps are being taken to help support students and help them catch up after the pandemic has stopped.

In May, the provincial government announced $ 45 million in funding for specific programs for students in grades one through three who were identified as needing additional learning support to “close the gap” in literacy and numeracy learning due to disruptions. of COVID-19.

At the time, Prime Minister Jason Kenney said that changes in online learning and school closings during the pandemic had led to learning disruptions that can be especially difficult in the younger grades.

LaGrange said the province was targeting the younger grades because it was the most urgent need at the time. He said the government would address the needs of older students if it sees them in the future.
