Kruger project displaces six mobile home owners in Magog

A project by the Kruger paper mill forces the relocation of six mobile home owners from Magog.

The six owners are settled on the land of a former KOA campground in the Omerville sector, in Magog, near Highway 55. However, these lands are coveted by Kruger, which wants to set up a distribution center there.

The owner of the premises, the Poirier Group, has agreed to transfer to the paper company the plot of land hosting the mobile homes at the end of Poirier Boulevard, forcing the owners of the residences to move their homes by June 30 at the latest.

The company indicated that as tenants of the lots, the owners were aware of the risk of such an eviction occurring.

It has also ensured that it has respected the deadlines prescribed by law by notifying the owners last November and even undertakes to pay the costs of disconnecting and moving the houses.

While some owners have decided to sell their mobile home and move elsewhere, others have managed to find new land to accommodate them.

But settling in another municipality can however generate significant additional costs such as the purchase of the land, the installation of a foundation, the reconnection to Hydro-Québec and even, in certain cases, the exterior covering to be changed.

For Julie Beaulieu, who has lived in one of the mobile homes for four years with her mother who has Alzheimer’s, the situation is quite different.

Despite her research, she is unable to find land on which to move her mobile home. She therefore fears being forced to sell it at a loss and not finding accommodation suitable for her mother’s needs.
