Kingston Area Public Health Declares Community Spread of COVID-19, No Known Exposure

KFLA’s Public Health Unit urges residents to take precautions following a statement of community spread of COVID-19 in the region.

“Community spread occurs when there are many positive COVID-19 cases and clusters of positive COVID-19 cases in our community, which cannot be explained by known exposures,” the Public Health Unit wrote in a press release today.

The health unit says that taking preventive measures will help slow or stop the spread of new infections in the community. Precautions include: getting fully vaccinated, limiting social gatherings, staying six feet away, and staying home if you’re not feeling well.

COVID-19 testing is available at the Beechgrove Complex or LACGH Westdale Campus in Napanee. There will also be vaccination and mobile tests at the following times and places:

  • Tuesday, November 16 – St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School Parking, from 1 to 3:30 pm
  • Wednesday, November 17 – Yonge St. near Johnston St., 1 to 3:30 pm
  • Thursday, November 18 – Belle Park Parking, 1 to 3:30 pm

“It is crucial for all KFL & A residents to monitor for COVID-19 symptoms. If symptoms develop, you should isolate yourself immediately. Come out of isolation just to visit a testing center to get tested for COVID-19, ”says Dr. Oglaza, Medical Health Officer for KFL & A Public Health. “Unfortunately, our case investigations show that people are not always following public health guidelines and are ignoring symptoms and delaying testing. This puts all members of the community at risk. If you feel sick, or even if you only have mild symptoms, make the responsible decision and get tested to protect yourself and your community. “

Symptoms of COVID-19 can include:

• Fever of 37.8 degrees Celsius or higher

• Cough or cough that gets worse

• Muscle aches, joint pain, and tiredness

• Difficulty breathing (shortness of breath)

• Headache

• Runny nose

• Gastrointestinal symptoms (eg, nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea)
