Interior Health ordered a restaurant in downtown Kelowna to close its doors for defying BC’s immunization test system.
Interior Health (IHA) delivered the orders Thursday to Renegade Kitchen and Craft Bar located on Leon Avenue. The restaurant also had its liquor license suspended.
In an email to Global News, the health organization said it “can confirm that an order was issued on Thursday requiring Renegade Kitchen and Craft Bar to suspend all food and liquor services with immediate effect for failing to comply with provincial facilities. of food and liquor service. order, specifically, for not verifying proof of vaccination. “

Interior Health also said that “the investigation was conducted after public health received a series of complaints that this facility was not verifying proof of immunization.”
“It is important to emphasize that the provincial order for food and liquor service venues is in effect to protect customers and restaurant and bar staff and reduce the risk of additional COVID-19 exposures in the community at large.”
Notices posted by Interior Health on the restaurant’s front doors listed the owners. They did not respond to Global News requests for an interview.
However, one of the owners placed a post on the Facebook group “BC Companies v. Health Pass” on September 9.
That post read, “We have decided that we will remain open to all,” in the hope that the restaurant’s stance may encourage other restaurant owners to challenge BC’s proof of vaccination system.
Interior Health’s suspension will remain in effect until the health authority submits and reviews a compliance plan.
IHA also warned that further action can be taken if the restaurant does not comply with the closure order.
