Const. Sean Eckland was charged Thursday with two counts of obstructing justice.

He had allegedly sent sexually explicit text messages to a victim of a 2018 domestic assault case in Lake Country, according to media reports. He was the lead investigator in the case.

Eckland was suspended with pay in December 2019 after his relationship with the victim was revealed in court documents submitted by the accused in the assault case, said Global News.

He is scheduled to appear in Kelowna provincial court on April 4.

The charges against Eckland were approved by a Crown Counsel with no prior or current connections with the officer, said the BC Prosecution Service in a statement.
