According to the HPD report, at 1:35 pm on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, a boy who was on a basketball court in front of Kashmere High School, located at 6900 Wileyvale Road, northeast of the Greater Houston area in the neighborhood known as Trinity Gardens, was gunned down during the Houston shooting.

After the shooting, all the students at the populous Kashmere High School, from the Houston Independent School District (HISD), were kept for their safety inside the school while HPD patrols searched for the shooter.

According to the preliminary report of HPD agents, the boy was on the basketball court when another man approached the young man and fired a pistol at him. The shooter fled the scene running. Someone who witnessed the shooting called the emergency number to report the crime.

When the first HPD patrolmen arrived at the scene of the crime, they found the young man so badly injured that they called for the help of the ambulance of the paramedics of the Houston Fire Department (HFD), to transport the boy to an emergency hospital at the Medical Center.

At 3:50 p.m., more than two hours after the shooting that left the young man badly injured, students from Kashmere High School in Houston were allowed to return to their homes in order and under the custody of HPD in the area to avoid incidents. According to Patricia Cantú, assistant chief of HPD, the wounded boy also discharged a pistol at the other man who came to shoot him and that shooting alarmed the neighbors. Chief Cantú said that during its agents’ preliminary investigation, the corporation discovered that there was a prior conflict between the two involved.

Patricia Cantú explained that several of her patrols are interviewing other young friends of the victim and according to their testimonies, the HPD already has the name of a possible suspect. However, Officer Cantú said they will not release it to the public until they complete their investigations into the shooting.

What Chief Cantú did reveal was that the alleged perpetrator, after setting up the shooting that alarmed the neighborhood, escaped in a red car of which they have no other characteristics. The officer assured that the two boys involved in the shooting are teenagers between 16 and 17 years of age.

In the investigation of the shooting with interviews with young student friends of the victim, HPD agents were able to discover that the boy who attacked the other and who is a fugitive so far is a student at Kashmere High School, although the authorities did not revealed in what grade he is enrolled.

The investigation of the case has already been taken by detectives from the HPD Major Assault Division, who are investigating the motive for the shooting and among the clues they have two lines have emerged to follow. As of this writing, several HPD agents are still in the Trinity Gardens neighborhood looking for the boy responsible for the attack. Officers have not recovered the weapons from the shooting and do not know if the guns ever entered the Kashmere High School campus.

Agents from HPD’s Major Assault Division are also looking to see if any of the video cameras in the area captured images of the incident that caused alarm among neighbors. The Harris County Prosecutor’s Office in Houston has already been informed of the case and the identity of the boy who started the shooting outside the school.
