There were two individuals in the distance trying to disrupt the interview; one playing music, the other gleefully insulting the Liberal leader. Suddenly, one of the two individuals made a misogynistic comment about Sophie Grégoire Trudeau.
It was then that Mr. Trudeau lowered his mask and shouted, in their direction, “Isn’t there a hospital that you should be disturbing right now?” “.
He made this comment, which was meant to be sarcastic, a few hours after he had promised to crack down on people opposing health measures demonstrating against hospitals, as has been seen across Canada. The Liberals promise, among other things, to criminalize obstructing access to buildings that provide health services.
On Tuesday, passing through Richmond, journalists questioned Mr. Trudeau about the comment he made to the protester.
“I think Canadians know very well that I don’t mind too much when people hurl insults at me, when they attack me personally. It’s part of my job. […] But this individual attacked my wife in a personal and disgusting way, ”lamented Mr. Trudeau.
“Me, I chose that. My family believes in what I do and is already going through a lot, but everyone has their limits. I will always be there to react when someone crosses those limits, ”he added.
However, that was not the only time Mr. Trudeau lost his patience with someone that day.
As he wrapped up the interview with Global News on Monday, the Liberal leader interrupted host Neetu Garcha to let him know he was not happy with the topics that had been discussed.
“But it’s an election on big things that we haven’t talked about. We haven’t talked about the pandemic, we haven’t talked about climate change. This is what people are going to make their decisions on. These are the issues that interest people in British Columbia, ”he insisted, while trying to stay calm.
Ms. Garcha told him that reconciliation with indigenous peoples was just as important, and that they had spoken about it in this local interview.
On Tuesday, Mr. Trudeau therefore held a press conference to discuss his commitments to fight climate change. He was joined by former British Columbia Green Party leader Andrew Weaver, who endorsed the Liberal plan and portrayed it as the environmental roadmap he had long dreamed of.
Call for strategic voting
While Liberals and Conservatives are still neck and neck in the polls, Trudeau called on progressives to vote Liberal by emphasizing his environmental promises.
According to him, progressives have three objectives: to prevent the Conservatives from taking power, to vote for the party that has the best plan to fight climate change and for the one that promises to go even further to save the planet. Only the Liberal Party of Canada can meet all three of these goals, Trudeau said.

The most recent Léger-La Presse Canadienne poll shows that the Liberals and Conservatives are tied with 32 percent support among determined voters, while the NDP comes third with 20 percent of the voting intentions.
