Junqueras: “They spy on us a lot, but they didn’t catch a single one”

The president of the ERC, Oriol Junqueras, spoke ironically this Saturday about the political espionage scandal and, in an allusion to the fact that the government he presided over Mariano Rajoy failed to prevent the referendum on 1-O, he stated that “they spy on us a lot, but they didn’t catch a single one at the polls”.

Junqueras has referred to political espionage and the independence referendum at a “meeting of republican municipalities” held in Reus (Tarragona), in which he has also participated by videoconference from Geneva (Switzerland) the ERC Secretary General, Martha Rovira.

“They spy on us, not only now but always and we all know it and are aware of it,” said the ERC leader one day after the Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchezand the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragoneswill be summoned to hold a meeting soon to analyze this matter.

According to Junqueras, “not only do they spy on us, but they also beat the people who go to vote, they lock us up in jail or keep us in exile, they persecute us, they prosecute us, they want to keep our house and that of our children. , they disqualify us, and prohibit us from teaching at the university”.

All this “they do, but so what?”, he asked himself, “because we can experience this persecution with pride, because we are convinced that what we have done is what we had to do, and that the majority of the people understand us and accompany us” and this “gives meaning to the efforts and sacrifices”.

“They are afraid of democracy -Oriol Junqueras has underlined-, and they spy on us a lot, but they didn’t catch a single one at the polls”, a phrase that was later corroborated by Marta Rovira adding that “not only did they not catch a single one, but We know why they didn’t catch a single one”.

Junqueras was also ironic when referring to espionage with the Pegasus software, when he said that “if they want to know something they can come and ask us” since “the advantage of doing noble things is that we can always explain them to everyone” .

For the ERC leader, “if they spy on us it is because they know we can win, and transform reality, and because they know we can build a Catalan republic at the service of the people, a much better republic than their monarchy.”

Marta Rovira, for her part, has been convinced that if there is espionage it is because those who decide to do so “believe” that the independence forces are “a threat” and that the holding of the 1-O referendum made them “very strong”.
