José Antonio Romero Tellaeche is appointed general director of CIDE

José Antonio Romero Tellaeche was ratified as general director of the Center for Economic Research and Teaching (CIDE), announced the head of the National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt), Elena Álvarez Buylla.

The official highlighted that the process to appoint Romero Tellaeche to the position was carried out with “total transparency and strict adherence to the regulations set forth in the general statute.”

Upon taking office as director of the CIDE, Romero Tellaeche said that the collegiate bodies will be strengthened and new channels of communication and substantive participation of the students will be opened.

The process for the appointment of the new general director of CIDE, who will replace Sergio López Ayllón After his resignation in August of this year, it consisted of various stages, which highlighted the tensions that have been present in this academic and research institution.

Elena Álvarez also announced that from 2022 the tuition fees or any type of fee for CIDE students and the Public Research Centers coordinated by the Conacyt.

“Undergraduate and graduate professional education and training should be free, understood as a right and not as a privilege available to a few,” said the official.



After ratification, CIDE students protest at the institution’s facilities located in Santa Fe.

On Sunday night, by student consensus, an indefinite strike was called and the seizure of the institution’s facilities. It is the first time that students from a public research center, belonging to Conacyt, carry out an act of this nature after ensuring that they were ignored by their authorities.
