Joe Biden to President AMLO: We are equal countries

Mexico City. The president of Mexico was in a good mood during yesterday’s session. This is what sources from the Mexican Foreign Ministry say, who described the beginning of the day inside the residence of the Mexican ambassador in Washington.

President López Obrador had breakfast accompanied by the delegation that traveled with him to Washington. Before the IX North American Leaders Summit began, the president held a bilateral meeting with President Joe Biden, and earlier with Vice President Kamala Harris.

The meeting with the vice president took longer than expected, because the personal greeting was extended on the Eisenhower balcony where they both spoke with good humor.

“Welcome, Mr. President, it is a pleasure to receive you in this place,” President Biden comments to his Mexican counterpart.

The American told AMLO that the old language used to describe Mexico, “the friends of the south,” has been left behind. “We are the same, and that is what I like about you,” Biden reiterated to President López Obrador.

“I think it is a different relationship that is born out of mutual respect.” These words of the American liked the Mexican president who takes the flower and remembers that in this way they respect each other’s sovereignties.

Juarez

For his part, President López Obrador recalled the figure of Benito Juárez: “Before everyone was here (he told the members of the delegations of both leaders), we talked about the historical relations that President Lincoln and President Juárez had. in his time – President Juárez, by the way, was the best president that Mexico has ever had – and they got on well ”.

AMLO reminded Biden that President Lincoln “never recognized Maximiliano.”

Apparently, the talk about history recharged President AMLO to, now, address the issues on the agenda, which in general terms were detached from the Summit agenda: pandemic, migration and trade.

The issue of energy reform, at least publicly, there was no comment.
