Kingston, Ontario, far west sports bar JAKK Tuesday continues to welcome customers despite losing its liquor and business licenses.

Both licenses were revoked for not following COVID safety guidelines.

It’s unclear what the city and public health will do next, or when.

The Kingston Public Health Unit, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington confirmed that they visited JAKK on Tuesday morning Friday, following up on a health order that was delivered to the facility on November 3.

The sports bar received a health order from public health and the city revoked its business license on Wednesday for failing to comply with provincial mandates, including checking diners’ vaccination status and requiring masks to be worn. .

However, the restaurant remains open to the public.

The restaurant saw another busy lunch on Friday, with lots of people coming and going, all saying they support the owner, Kelly Hale, and his fight against COVID mandates.

“I think it’s great what he’s doing,” says Don, who declined to reveal his last name, one of the bar’s patrons.

“I think more people in Kingston should come together and support it because they are trying to take away our rights and food could be the first stop. As everything is going in the country, you have to make a position and I applaud him for doing it. “

Kingston city charter said in a statement Friday that they are considering legal options to enforce their licensing statute, while public health says they are also considering next steps.

In an interview Thursday, the KFL & A medical health officer laid out the two options that public health can pursue once proof of non-compliance is gathered.

“You can proceed toward monetary fines or you can proceed to a request in the superior court of law for a court order,” said Dr. Piotr Oglaza, MOH of KFL & A.

JAKK Tuesday’s Ower declined to speak to Global News.

Neither statutes nor public health would give a timeline for when stricter enforcement could occur, saying the investigation is ongoing.
