Ruth Hamilton was fast asleep last week when she was awakened by her dog’s barking, the sound of a bang through her roof and the sensation of debris on her face, the Golden, BC resident said Monday.
He said he jumped out of bed and turned on the light to find out what had happened, and discovered a hole in the ceiling.
“I’ve never been so scared in my life,” she said of the October 3 incident. “I wasn’t sure what to do, so I called 911 and when I was talking to the operator, I turned my pillow over and saw that a stone had slipped between two pillows.”

A police officer was immediately dispatched to investigate, he said. Initially, the officer suspected it was debris from a construction site on a nearby highway.
“He called the (construction site) and they said they hadn’t made an explosion, but that they had seen an explosion in the sky and, at that very moment, we realized it was a meteorite.”
They concluded that it must have been a fragment of a meteor shower that took place that very night.
He said the officer soon left, but was unable to go back to sleep.
“I was in shock and I just sat here for a few hours shaking,” she said. “The chances of that happening are very small, so I am very grateful to be alive.”
In addition to being shocked, Hamilton said she avoided injuries but plans to keep the stone.
He said the insurance company has inspected the damage and is now only concentrating on repairing it.
