Puebla, Pue. Given the plans of developers to build 10,000 homes in the Historic Center over the next three years, the Parking Association of the State of Puebla considered that 3,500 parking spaces should be built to meet the demand that will be generated.
Ezequiel Oropeza Gutiérrez, president of the organization, explained that this number of spaces is what is needed to reduce 50% of the deficit that exists in the downtown area.
He deepened that 50 of the 120 partners are interested in investing, for which around 100 million pesos are required to expand the parking lots, as the supply of vertical housing is finalized.
He explained that the need for places has been especially on weekends when the influx of tourists from the center and south of the country increases, especially because parking on public roads has been restricted in the first square of the city.
However, he stressed, now that the area will be repopulated, it will also be necessary to have more parking spaces, because not in all cases the buildings will have enough spaces.
Oropeza Gutiérrez explained that businessmen in their own premises have the ability to increase from two to three levels when required, “but considering that it will be a need in the short and medium term.”
He referred that the partner parking lots that are around the zócalo generate 3,500 parking spaces, which have not increased for seven years despite the need that exists and that the new vertical offer can represent a good opportunity to invest.
In a census carried out by the city council, 176 establishments have been identified in this area, which offer approximately 9,234 spaces. Of these, 76 are likely to increase their capacity.
He stressed that this opportunity to expand their businesses will represent higher incomes for the sector and in turn generate three to four direct jobs, plus those in the construction stage.
He trusted that more businessmen from the sector would join, which would be beneficial for the city and, with it, the problem of franeleros would be solved, who on weekends charge up to 10 pesos to visitors for parking on public roads.
