Increase in fires in Quebec: the Ban on open fires extended


The fire season has not started with a dead hand in Quebec and the ban on open fires has been extended to prevent disasters.

Since the start of the protection season, 138 forest fires have affected 114.2 hectares. The average of the last ten years at the same date is 102 fires for an area of ​​82.4 hectares.

The Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks decided on Monday to modify the ban on open fires in or near the forest.

“This decision, taken in collaboration with the Society for the Protection of Forests against Fire (SOPFEU), therefore entails the expansion of the territory affected by the ban on making open fires in the forest or nearby”, specified via announced Monday the ministry.

Currently, 12 fires are active in Quebec.

In Montreal, more than 150 firefighters were fighting a major fire that broke out Monday mid-afternoon in the Sud-Ouest borough.
