INAH must settle a debt of 70 million pesos in 2022: CMIC Puebla

Puebla, Pue. The National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) It has until 2022 to settle the 70 million pesos of debt for the remodeling works that were made to the historic buildings damaged by the 2017 earthquake.

The local president of the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry (CMIC), Héctor Sánchez Morales, said that “a long time has passed and the businessmen of the sector who participated in the works urgently require these payments, because they finished the work on time as requested.”

He indicated that through meetings with federal and state authorities it was possible to reach an agreement for the payment, since individually the builders would not have been able and would give them longer.

He said that in this in the middle of this year a part of the debt was covered, without mentioning the amount, because “the important thing now is the pending pending.”

“We are already going for four years, having financed a work and holding out without payment is not easy, coupled with the fact that the pandemic came last year, it also made it difficult to negotiate the debt,” he said.

Sánchez Morales explained that there is now the INAH’s commitment to pay the 70 million in 2022, although the CMIC partners were not given an exact date.

He stressed that the builders have had the patience to wait, but they are desperate because that money could well be used for expenses generated by the stoppage of activities last year.

The CMIC was one of the first agencies to be required by the authorities to repair damaged buildings, because it has companies specialized in the care of historic buildings.

Expectations

On the other hand, he hopes that next year will be better for the sector, which has been reactivated since August last year, although public works have been progressing slowly at the three levels of government.

He specified that entrepreneurs have also been diversifying so as not to depend on public works, but to detonate private projects such as in the housing sector.
