“These floor plans are what is resonating in today’s market,” says Karen van der Velden, product development manager at Minto. “We have given a broad spectrum from the entry-level family home to the top dog.”

The five single-family homes, which opened last year, join the four townhomes that opened in February 2020, creating an impressive row of model homes to visit for inspiration and to help with purchasing decisions.

The single-family floor plans chosen are intended to add to the mix of models Minto has citywide and include two that have never been built as models before: the Clairmont and the Quinton Guest Suite.

They also show a variety of options available at Minto’s Barrhaven projects: Quinn’s Pointe and Harmony. Although Harmony is nearing depletion, Quinn’s Pointe still has plenty of houses on sale. Minto is currently selling phase 4 of Quinn’s Pointe, which includes more than 300 homes in addition to the more than 1,000 already built in the first three phases. More phases are expected.

For designer Donna Correy, whose KISS Design Group team was tasked with completing the models’ interiors amid the challenges of the pandemic, it became an exercise in flexibility that prompted her to work with what she could find and deliver to time, as long as the average homeowner has had to. As such, the houses “reflect the most creative end result and we hope for something the owners can relate to and emulate,” she says.

It also designed spaces with families struggling with the second year of COVID in mind: “more areas to work at home, more areas like relaxing getaway spaces, learning spaces for kids, and spaces for extended family.”

Additional creative attention was paid to the kitchen joinery in both design and colors “as it needed to be an important center of the home now, more than ever”. She leaned toward colors that weren’t just in style, but sent the message that “things are brightening up; life will be normal again, happy and your home can be fun”.

And furniture was chosen to embellish the themes of rest, relaxation, positive feelings, and living in a home with more purposeful intent than in the past.

Among Minto’s smaller singles and a best seller, the Kinghurst is aimed at a buyer looking to upgrade from a semi-detached to a single. Designed in an eclectic, bohemian/contemporary style, the home leans toward mid-century modern with earth tones and textures and hints of teal. It has an open concept main floor, with kitchen, dining room, great room and den.

Clairmont

36 foot lot, three bedrooms, 2,171 square feet

The Clairmont is a newer lift single aimed at families and one that buyers have been eager to see built, says van der Velden. It features hints of an industrial aesthetic, with mostly muted shades of gray, taupe, and blue for a calming, airy feel. For growing families who need space to spread out but also to entertain, the separate formal dining room and large upstairs loft add inviting spaces to gather or escape.
