The general director of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), Zoé Robledo, recognized more than 130 thousand Social Security nurses, who are the ones who move, give direction to the Institute and represent the heart of medical care.
Within the framework of the International Nursing Day that is commemorated today, May 12, the director general of the Institute spoke with nurses from Social Security who received the Miguel Hidalgo Award in Collar Degree, awarded to health personnel for relevant and eminent merits provided to the Homeland in the care of the health emergency by Covid-19.
During the meeting at the IMSS headquarters, Zoé Robledo highlighted the participation of this sector during the pandemic, an intervention that made it possible to serve the population that required a hospital bed in an effective, timely and coordinated manner, under the zero rejection policy. strategy that goes hand in hand with the National Vaccination Plan against Covid-19.
He widely recognized the nurses Elizabeth Bustamante Rodríguez, from the Hospital General de Zona (HGZ) No. 8 of Ciudad Sahagún, Hidalgo; Rebeca Raíz Hernández, from the High Specialty Medicine Unit (UMAE) Specialty Hospital of the National Medical Center (CMN) West; Karina del Carmen Castillo Hernández, from HGZ No. 46 Villahermosa, Tabasco; and Norma Estela Colunga Mares, from HGZ No. 53 Los Reyes, State of Mexico.

On the other hand, Zoé Robledo pointed out that on May 12, by decree of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, this date was established to commemorate Nursing in Mexico.
He explained that this day was chosen because it was the birth of Florence Nightingale, considered the mother of professional nursing in the world, whose contributions gave method and science to this noble profession that was born in the middle of the war.
He stressed that the IMSS Nursing staff is an army that does not make excuses in general care, it did not do so during the pandemic and thanks to them it was possible to face this challenge, since they integrated Covid teams, they did tests, they were the links between the patients and their families, dedicated themselves to vaccinating, recovering ordinary services and will be key in the transformation of the health system.
He reported that 7 million Mexican men and women who needed care and received it at the IMSS in a hospital bed, in tests or on an outpatient basis, were in the hands of nurses from the Institute.
