If Nuevo León reaches a GDP of 3% this year, it recovers from the fall of 2020: Coparmex Nuevo León

Monterey, NL. The economic activity of the state registered a growth rate of 6.49%, in the Quarterly Indicator of Economic Activity (ITAEE) in 2021, which exceeded the country’s Gross Domestic Product, which reached 5 percent.

The Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) Nuevo León indicated that if it reaches GDP growth of 3%, as forecast by the state government, the entity will recover what was lost in 2020.

However, it will not be until next December when the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) publishes the rates recorded by GDP at the state level.

In 2019 the average growth of the ITAEE was 1.5%, in 2020 it had a negative variation of -8.3% due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the closure of non-essential activities, and in 2021 it reached 6.49 percent.

The manufacturing industry has been the one that drives the economic dynamism of the state, which grew 12.5% in 2021. This rate is higher than the variation that the GDP of the country’s manufacturing industry had that year, of 8.6 percent.

Cecilia Carrillo López, director of Coparmex Nuevo León, attributed the good economic performance of the state to its industrial and export vocation.

“The geographical position of the state, the quality of its human capital, the infrastructure it offers, among others, have made Nuevo León a magnet for quite diversified investments.”

“Nuevo León has a wide variety of export manufacturing sectors. We have been able to capitalize on the closeness we have with the largest economy in the world”.

The board trusted that this trend will continue and will not be affected by intermittent supply of water, electricity or safety issues for people and goods.

“We need legal certainty and investment in infrastructure by the federal government and teamwork between the state executive and legislature to carry out all the projects we need, according to the priorities of citizens.”

He stressed that new national or foreign investments or reinvestments improve the quality of life for all Neolones, by bringing new jobs and an economic spillover to other sectors, and in the case of the state government, this allows them to capture more employer contributions of social benefits. , plus taxes on Income Tax (ISR) and Payroll Tax, among other things.

It should also be noted that the economy of Nuevo León has a high correlation with the manufacturing industry in the United States.

In 2021, the Gross Domestic Product of the United States registered a recovery and growth of 5.7%, and it was the highest rate since 1984, indicated Coparmex Nuevo León.
