Icy road conditions are likely to be a factor in fatal collision near Lethbridge – Lethbridge | The Canadian News

One man was killed and another was taken to hospital after a collision with two vehicles in southern Alberta on Friday.

RCMP says the collision occurred on Highway 25 just south of Diamond City, Alta., Shortly before 8 p.m.

Police believe a car traveling on Highway 25 east collided with a westbound sports utility vehicle.

The man who was driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene. He was then the only person in the vehicle.

The driver of the sports utility vehicle was taken to hospital with what according to the police are non-life-threatening injuries. The driver was also the only person in the SUV when the collision occurred.

Icy road conditions apparently contributed to the collision.

Emergency crews remained at the scene around 10:30 a.m. and said traffic was being diverted around the area at Highway 25 and 102 Township Road, as well as Highway 25 at 221 Range Road.

The highway was open again at about 11:45

Diamond City is located about 15 miles north of Lethbridge.

RCMP asks drivers to slow down and drive to road conditions.
