Hotel industry accumulates occupancy of 42% in Querétaro

Queretaro, Qro. March was a point of reference for the recovery of the hotel sector in Querétaro, closing that month with 52% average occupancy, achieving an accumulated close to 42% in the first quarter of the year, according to records from the Queretaro Association of Hoteliers (AQH).

This level of occupation indicates a growth of 15% compared to the same period of the previous year, explained the president of the AQH, Luis Signoret.

However, the pre-pandemic level of occupation that hovered around 60% in the state of Querétaro has not yet been resumed.

“March was an important turning point, because we managed to close the month with an occupancy of 52%, in that month, it allows us to increase the accumulated throughout the year; (…) So, unlike the same period of the previous year, we already brought growth”, he explained.

The demand for hosting services that has been in the first quarter of the year, he explained, is a sign that the sector continues in a recovery process.

“That allows us to be more certain that we are on the right track, that we are moving forward, not so slowly, but we are not going so fast either. We are going at a good pace and we believe that the second half of this year will be much more important for us”, he indicated.

Only in this holiday period of Holy Week, the AQH estimates to capture an economic spill of 22 to 25 million pesos and reach an occupation of 60 to 62% during the days of greatest tourist influx.

According to the president of the AQH, in this second quarter of the year the sector will continue betting on the growth of domestic tourism, trusting that the expectations of business and international tourism will improve. The second half is forecast to bring more recovery factors.

In the state there are 571 lodging establishments, which group around 16,639 rooms, exposes the Querétaro Economic Yearbook, published by the Secretariat of Sustainable Development (Sedesu).
